I have to agree.
I was in a minor car accident. The other driver was at fault. He said he would cover the cost of my minor damage (which my insurance company later said was $1200). I told him that I would not put a claim in, however I did report the accident so it would be documented. I also had the insurance company work up an estimate. I never requested a settlement though because I thought the true cost of the repair could be covered with less than $500 (my deductable).
After 2 weeks of phone conversations, I never heard from him again. I thought he was a honest guy... Misjudgement on my part.
Not anywhere near a horror story, but we certainly need to watch out for ourselves.
